The Godfather Radio Show
A Musical Tribute to Legendary South Texas Radio Personality Joe “The Godfather” Anthony
September 2022 marks thirty years since the passing of Joe “The Godfather” Anthony Yannuzzi a radio legend in San Antonio, Texas. Joe spent most of his DJ career at KMAC/KISS playing freeform hard rock and introducing south Texas to many great rockin’ bands long before anyone else. Many of those bands Joe first played on the radio went on to international fame like Rush, Triumph and Judas Priest. Other bands Joe played like Legs Diamond, Budgie, Moxie, Killer and Riot were more well-known in San Antonio than almost anywhere else. I can recall Joe getting a new album and playing the whole LP from start to finish. Joe had a style and sense of humor that made him so beloved and popular. The loud, high energy, raw power of the hard rock and heavy metal that Joe played was infectious and a big part of my youth growing up in SA. Also big shout out to the other KMAC/KISS DJ’s Lou Roney, Donnie Meals, Tom “The T-Bone” Scheppke, Debbie “The Electric Lady” Alcocer, Jason Lee “The Tiptonizer” Tipton and others I missed.
Lyrics
Hear now the story of a man that we call Joe Anthony
Crossing the sea his family came to south Texas all the way from Italy
Joe had a show a legend of rock radio
Playin hard rockin bands from far away lands
To the fans in San Antonio
Drop the needle on another rockin track
An edge with metallic attack
Turn it on It’s time we tuned in
The show is about to begin
The voice like a friend from my old stereo
The Godfather Radio Show
Like a torch lights up the night with its fire and its flame
Raw watts of power from the radio tower
Can you hear the metal gods proclaim
Drop the needle on another rockin track
An edge with metallic attack
Turn it on It’s time we tuned in
The show is about to begin
The voice like a friend from my old stereo
The Godfather Radio Show
Solo
Turn it on It’s time we tuned in
The show is about to begin
The voice like a friend from my old stereo
The Godfather Radio Godfather Radio Godfather Radio Show
When I die and go to heaven There’ll be a DJ that I know
(spoken) Vaya con Dios Joe
